Our seed partners rigorously test their products using Clearfield protocols and Clearfield herbicides. All growers should check if the herbicide they are applying is approved for use on Clearfield varieties. And they should also ask who will compensate them for the cost of seed or crop loss in the event of a problem resulting from the use of non-approved herbicides.

The Clearfield commitment to crop safety and stewardship

BASF is committed to delivering a top quality Clearfield Production System that helps deliver maximum yield potential and while remaining effective for growers in the long term. Stewardship guidelines exist for both the seed and herbicide, ensuring high seed quality and purity, as well as adequate crop tolerance to Intervix® herbicide.

Clearfield seeds are developed and commercialised using strict guidelines to avoid the introduction of noxious weeds or “off-type” crops. They are fully tolerant to Clearfield herbicides when released. Clearfield growers should purchase seed from authorized Clearfield seed retailers and avail themselves of Clearfield AgriCentre services.

Herbicide stewardship is very important to achieve maximum weed control. There are key agronomic practices that need to be followed for all Clearfield crops:

1. Best practice crop rotations.
2. Herbicides management with different modes of action. Do not solely rely on ALS-inhibiting herbicides, such as Intervix^®, for more than two out of four years, unless other weed-control practices are implemented on target weed species.
3. Properly manage weeds in crop-fallow rotations.
4. Properly control volunteer Clearfield plants.

for each crop.
